The story behind maggie.s
New name, same heart.
Maggie.s is more than just the name of our café, it tells the story of family, community, and the place we call home. It is a celebration of where we come from, the people who shaped us, and the community we are so grateful to be part of.
Zoe’s grandmothers shared the same name, just in different languages. Her grandmother on her mother's side was Marguerite, and her grandmother on her father's side was Margaret. She was also given the middle name Marguerite, carrying on that special family connection.
In France, Marguerite is often affectionately shortened to Maguy. As we searched for a new name, we wanted something that represented not only us or one of us, but also the wonderful neighbours and community that make this place so special.
Maguy naturally became Maggie, a name that feels warm, familiar, and welcoming. It also has a lovely connection to the magpie, one of the most recognisable birds in our neighbourhood. Just like the magpies that are part of our everyday surroundings, we hope Maggie.s becomes a familiar and cherished part of the local community.
You may also notice the daisies in our logo. In French, the word for daisy is marguerite, a subtle tribute to both Zoe’s grandmothers and to the family story that inspired our new name.
